Paper based resources

math-center.jpgThe national math centre contains many paper-based resources covering a wide range of topics.The quick reference leaflets (e.g. Ratio, Fractions, Decimals, Rules of Arithmetic) or Numeracy Refresher Booklet are ideal to use if you need a refresher. However, if you need more explanation then teach-yourself booklets are more ideal. You can download and print these resources and work through them in your own time and at your own place.

 

learning-space.jpgThe website gives free access to Open University course materials. This is the LearningSpace where you'll find hundreds of free study units. The MU120 units are designed to help you become more familiar with how ratios, proportions and percentages can be manipulated. These units explain the basics of working with positive and negative numbers and how to multiply and divide with fractions and decimals etc.

Each unit is with a discussion forum. Study independently at your own pace or join a group and use the free learning tools to work with others.

Video resources

math_tutor.jpgThe arithmetic video tutorials, with diagnostics, summary text and exercises, take you through topics in the way you choose. You can view and work with them online or order them on DVD-ROM.

 

math-center.jpgThe video resources (video tutorials, iPod and 3G mobile phone downloads) provided by the Mathcentre are useful. Resources are available online and may be printed or downloaded.

 

skills-at-library.jpgSkills@Library  Experienced teachers explain wide range of numeracy topics (Decimal, Fractions, BODMAS, Conversion of units etc.). The solutions are presented as a series of short video clips displayed on the screen in a step-by-step format.

 

 


 

Interactive resources

bbc.jpgThis site contains some excellent revision materials and online tests at GCSE level. There are revision material, activities and online tests that you can complete to ensure that you fully understand the basic techniques.

 

skills-wise.jpgThis site contains material on basic numeracy topics, such as whole numbers, fractions, etc. The examples and questions are applied to 'real-life' situations so you can see how certain techniques can be applied to everyday calculations.

 

That Quiz   This maths website (Andrew Lyczak) contains a wide range of quizzes (arithmetic, time, money, measure, shapes etc). You can practice against the clock.

 

Mathletics    This is a set of assessments in many areas of mathematics at the levels of GCSE, AS, A level, and first- and second-year university.

 

numbers.jpgThis site covers basic numerical skills, graphs and charts etc. It is built as a series of toolkits, some of which are web-based and interactive, whilst others are currently printable files (Excel or PDF).

 

nrich.jpgThe activities at this site will develop your mathematical problem solving skills. Choose the For Students option then a Stage to see the resourses available.
