15/19 Using SPSS
Statistical analysis using SPSS
You can do some very sophisticated procedures in SPSS. It is most likely that you will want to generate descriptive statistics, such as:
- Analyse > Descriptive statistics > Frequencies, e.g. frequency and percentages of responses
(Note that the Statistics button gives more choices)
- Descriptive, e.g. dispersion (min. and max. responses)
(Note that the Options button gives more choices)
You may wish to undertake Inferential statistics, such as:
- Analyse > Correlate Bivariate, e.g. Pearson, Kendalls tau-b, Spearman
SPSS Viewer
Note that the results of analysis are presented in the SPSS Viewer . If you want to save this output you must File > Save as and enter a "filename".spo e.g. efficiencystats.spo (you can then just File > Save the output as necessary).
You must save both the data editor (i.e. variable information and data entered) and output (SPSS viewer) separately.
Tables/Charts/Graphs
The tables of results, charts and graphs can be edited and copied into (for example) Word documents.
