University of Manchester Study Skills website
A generic study skills site for students developed by the University of Manchester humanities faculty covering a range of ‘study skills’ including an introduction to self evaluation.
University of Manchester Language Centre Learning Guide
Aimed mainly at language students but focusing on learning independently with templates for action planning and reflection as well as quizzes to identify learning and motivation styles.
University of Hull – Certificate in Professional Development resource page
Although this site is entitled PDP, the focus is more on the tools used in professional development. It’s a good source of templates and examples to support the development of self-directed study.
Probably the most comprehensive website on adult self-directed learning. While much of it is dedicated to Roger Hiemstra’s own work it also provides links to other key sources as well as tools and ideas for supporting self-directed learners.
Described as 'a space for people to explore the theory and practice of informal education and lifelong learning' this is an excellent resource on learning theories and theorists.
Open University – Learning how to learn
Well established source of materials for independent learners, now available on the web. The OpenLearn site also has materials on becoming a reflective learner.
